Entry Door FAQs

Q: How do I know if the door I like is eligible for the US Federal Tax Credit?

A: To qualify for the US Federal Tax Credit, an entry door must meet or exceed the criteria established by the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) for the climate zone in which the product is installed. Many of the door sold and installed by American Vision qualify in California. Contact us for more information.

Q: What is the difference between R-value and U-factor?

A: R-values are calculations of resistance to heat flow based on the conductivity and thickness of material while U-factors are measurements of heat flow of an assembled door or window based on testing and/or simulation. R-values are common to the insulation industry, but U-factors are recognized as a much more accurate method of determining energy performance of doors and windows since they consider all elements of construction as well as environmental factors.

Q: What does the gauge measurement mean in steel doors?

A: Gauge is the thickness of the steel. Steel doors are cut from large rolls.
