Steel Doors
What are the differences in steel doors? We get this question quite often. In the most basic sense there are three types of doors. Non-insulated / Partially Insulated / Fully Insulated
Insulated doors deliver a quieter operation. They generally have a better appearance from within the garage and provide some insulation to the garage. Steel doors are typically embossed with a wood grain texture but we have flush panel products as well as stucco style embossments.
The gauge and construction methods of the door gives the door strength. We believe at a minimum a 24 gauge steel should be used in constructing a door that will last. Fully insulated doors typically use what is called “sandwich construction” Simply this is two pieces of steel sandwiched and glued over a polystyrene (or equivalent) insulation material.
Partially insulated doors have an insulation layer that in most cases is thinner. The insulation is typically held in place with a PVC (plastic based composite) or steel backing. This backing improves the interior appearance of the door and provides similar benefits that the fully insulated doors offer.
Non-insulated doors offer affordability and performance. South Coast Home Solutions Garage Doors believes the non-insulated doors should be a minimum of 24 gauge steel. Lighter gauge doors do not provide the performance we demand our customers get. They come in all styles and with similar window options.
