Although solar energy seems like a complex concept, it is actually a very simple and resourceful way to convert your home into an energy efficient, money saving property. Solar panels are operated solely on the most abundant resource we Californians have: sunlight.

Solar panels are made of photovoltaic (PV) cells. PV cells are a renewable form of energy and are designed to convert solar radiation into usable energy. When sunlight hits the panels, the PV cells convert it into direct current (DC) power. DC is a type of electrical current that travels in only one direction.

When light hits a cell, it usually generates around 1 to 2 watts of electricity. This may seem like a small number, however, all of the cells working together can produce substantial amounts of electricity for your home as well as save you money over time.
